Corporation of America, a leading entertainment company of audio, video,
communications and information technology products, for consumer and
professional markets. The Network Platform group for SMSS provides
infrastructure systems for services such as registration, billing,
customer service tools, and storefront management tools for
PLAYSTATION®Network.
Sr. QA Engineer
San Diego, CA
The Senior QA Engineer is responsible for assuring the quality of Sony
Media Software and Services' (SMSS) internal and customer-facing
applications using manual black-box and gray-box testing techniques as
well as some automated test scripts. Duties include trouble-shooting and
resolving test environment and infrastructure issues, as well as working
with test case management, issue tracking, source control, database,
requirements management, reporting, and other tools.
In the course of performing this function, the Senior QA Engineer will
rely on his or her extensive background in software development, QA,
system administration, script automation, frameworks, and associated
organizational processes.
The Senior QA Engineer is a member of the QA team, reports to the
Manager of Quality Assurance, and collaborates closely with the
Development and System Infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with product, business, and development teams to develop
test plans and strategies.
- Perform both 'black box' and 'gray box' testing of SMSS' internal and
customer-facing applications by analyzing applications and requirements
and designing and executing test cases.
- Integrate, support, use and maintain issue tracking systems such as
Devtrack. source control tools such as Perforce and test case management
systems such as Silk Central Test Manager
- Work with QA team members, software developers and system and database
administrators to trouble-shoot test failures in the various test
environments. This may include trouble-shooting database issues
using SQL queries, reviewing web server and application server logs,
etc.
Required Background and Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years experience performing manual and automated software
testing in a team environment
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related
software engineering discipline, or equivalent
- Experience with web application servers, such as Tomcat and Web
servers such as Apache
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- A team player who does not need extensive supervision
- Ability to work constructively with developers, QA, Systems and
Project managers towards a common goal
- Solid knowledge of Relational Database and SQL queries
- Thorough knowledge of MS Windows operating systems
Desired Skills:
- Experience testing applications integrating with Wireless Networks, or
embedded software knowledge
- Experience using enterprise-level Issue Tracking systems such as
Devtrack
- Experience with Java application development
- Experience performing automated software testing in a team environment
using SilkTest, WinRunner, QTP, or Selenium
- Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
- Experience with scripting languages and tools such as PERL
- Experience with XML
